The Armenian government has approved new regulations for a digital driver’s license.
Presenting the decision at Thursday’s cabinet meeting, Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan said the measure aims to modernize driver registration and testing services. She reminded that from September 1, digital driver’s licenses and vehicle registration certificates are already legally valid.
Under the new rules, digital licenses will be issued alongside or instead of physical cards to those who pass driving exams, to current license holders and to foreign license holders exchanging their permits for Armenian ones.
The digital documents will be accessible via the Interior Ministry’s website or a mobile app after strong ID authentication through the YesEm platform.
The minister stressed that citizens will still be able to obtain physical plastic licenses at any time, but at double the fee compared to the digital version.
