European Women's Chess Championship nears end in Batumi

There are three rounds remaining in the 2026 European Women's Chess Championship, currently taking place in Batumi, Georgia.

After Round 8, the sole leader of the championship is Spanish IM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez with 7 points, the Armenian Chess Federation reported on Wednesday.

Armenia is represented by 16 players in the championship.

Armenian GM Elina Danielian and WGM Mariam Mkrtchyan have scored 5.5 points and share 13th place.

WFM Polina Kobak, WFM Anna Khachatryan and IM Lilit Mkrtchian are on 5 points. Kiti Nadanyan has 4.5 points, while Ani Avetisyan has 4 points.

Round 9 starts on June 3 at 3 p.m. Yerevan time.
