SCHOOL NUMBER 16 NEEDS ATTENTION

Two hundred fifty one children of the age of six to eighteen go to special school number 16 for children with sight disabilities. Eighty to ninety of them stay at school at nights. Six to seven other children come to this school from low income families or from single parent families. In the words of school principal, Marieta Petrosyan, the children may go home on the weekend to meet their relatives.
The school was built in 1967 and has hosted refugees from Azerbaijan in 1990s. This is the 40th year now that no reconstruction was conducted in this school and it became possible only this year.

School N16 has many problems in addition to a leaking roof, non-functioning sanitary facilities and classrooms in poor conditions. In the words of the director, there are many “unresolved issues” in reality for the implementation of which funds are needed.

The school management underscores the problem of heating and furniture. “The furniture needs to be swiftly renovated in our school. It has become absolutely useless after so many years of use, not mentioning that we have received it from a liquidated boarding school of the region of Aragatsotn,” she said.
Despite of this, the school pupils are waiting for the new academic year.
