MODERN ART NOT UNDERSTOOD IN ARMENIA

Modern art is not accepted in Armenia since it is not considered a type of art. Meanwhile, many countries in the world accept only modern art and prior types are recognized as art history, Coordinator of “Utopia” organization, Seda Papoyan, shared this opinion with Panorama.am.
In her words, the main aim of the organization is to develop modern art in Armenia and to establish a dialogue among cultures. She said Armenian artists painting in modern style are very successful abroad.
“There was an important element during Soviet Union that is missing today – there were no private spaces, the art belonged to all. You cannot discuss or criticize property. Art is not property. You cannot estimate who has taken what with them. You cannot set a price for art,” Mher Azatyan, a modern artist, says in a conversation with Panorama.am.
