GOVERNMENT PLANS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS STUDYING ABROAD

Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan held a discussion yesterday relating to issues of Armenian students studying abroad. The prime minister mentioned that a reflection was made on the issue during the discussion of Budget 2008 at the National Assembly. He said that the state budget will allocate funds as a support to students who study at prestigious higher educational establishments abroad. Sargsyan mentioned that the government could not overlook the issue since education and science are one of priorities of the government. The prime minister listened to suggestions and opinions in the sector.

Summing up the discussion, Sargsyan pinpointed to two main approaches for tackling the problems in the area. First, to select students studying abroad with best achievements and support them in the course of their studies. Second, to select talented students studying in leading higher educational establishments in the republic to enhance their opportunities. The prime minister assigned to create a working group that will submit suggestions in three weeks on the mentioned issues.

Several top officials participated in the discussion, among them minister of education and science, assistant to the president, trade and economic development minister and several others.
