Segodnia.ru issued a report over the survey results conducted by a group of Russian scientists.
Analyzing over 187 history school-books taught in 12 former Soviet Union states, the experts concluded that except Armenia and Belarus, the post-Soviet community states taught their pupils national history myths instead of the objective narrative of the historical events, claiming Russia to be “implacable enemy”, due to the activities of which the nations were massacred in different historical periods.
Referring to the topic, “Russian Reporter” notes that some facts in the school-books arise laughter, while the others are just shocking.
For example, “First written records over the ancient Azerbaijani tribes can be found in Sumer epics and cuneiforms.” Hence, it follows that “The contemporary Armenia is situated in the territory of the ancient western Azerbaijan.”
That’s not the end, though. As Segodnia.ru says, “it’s been long since Azeris don’t remember the Kingdom of Urartu, the most ancient one in the USSR territory situated in the Armenian plateau.” Russia’s image of the “implacable enemy” emerges in the Azerbaijani history books as well, the source mentions.
“Such treasures, of course, could be treated ironically but for a reason. Providing this continues, 20th century events will be forgotten in some 15-20 years,” the paper says.
