Gordon Brown has welcomed a commitment from the G7 to write off Haiti's debt in the wake of January's earthquake. The move was confirmed at a finance summit in Canada attended by Chancellor Alistair Darling. Countries including the UK had already signalled they would not pursue cash owed by Haiti, said to be £570million. But charities wanted a joint pledge from the G7 - made up of the US, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada and UK.
