Brazils’ capital city hosted UNESCO 34th session of World Heritage. Panorama.am requested Armenian Minsitry of Culture to be informed if any Armenian monument is nominated to be listed in the World Heritage.
According to the source no Armenian monument is nominated in UNESCO World Heritage List. It’s almost several years the cultural landscape of Gnishakadzor’s valley is declined.

The Culture Ministry submitted application for this session but it was again declined.
“They have special demands. Once we thought the reason was the restaurant built near the monument. But that wasn’t a decline reason. The country which submits application to be listed in the Heritage List should attach a project how they imagine the protection of the monument. The committee claimed several standards that the monument should correspond,” Gagik Gyurjyan, former Deputy Minister of Culture and Director of Eerbuni Museum told Panorama.am.
Gnishakadzor landscape is of 500 hectares, which includes several monuments. Famous historical cultural monuments are Noravanq Complex, Church of Areni.
It’s worth reminding that UNESCO World Heritage List covers three Armenian monuments – Sanahin-Haghpat Churches, Geghardavanq with the Valley of Azat River and churches of Etchmiadzin, Zvartnots.
