Today “World doctors for peace” international day is marked. According to Russian media the day is appointed by “World doctors for prevention of nuclear danger” organization.
On August 6,1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan, and again on August 9, another was dropped on Nagasaki, bringing a swift end to World War II.
The United States has for the first time sent a representative to attend the annual ceremony commemorating the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War II -- the first use of a nuclear weapon against human beings.
Representatives of about 75 other countries and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also attended the ceremony.
Participants in the memorial observed a minute of silence as the Hiroshima Bell of Peace tolled at 8:15 a.m. local time -- the exact moment 65 years ago, on August 6, 1945, when the U.S. bomber Enola Gay dropped the atomic weapon on the city.
