Placido Domingo named Latin Grammy person of 2010

The three-time Latin Grammy and nine-time Grammy award-winning opera singer will be honoured at a tribute dinner on Nov. 10 in Las Vegas, the Latin Recording Academy announced Tuesday.

The gala will feature a number of his friends performing his favourite songs. Proceeds from the event will go to his preferred charities as well as the Latin Recording Academy's outreach and educational program.

Past person of the year winners have included Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and Carlos Santana.
