Unknown canvas by Viktor Vasnetsov hits record

 “Bogatyr” by renowned Russian folklore painter Viktor Vasnetsov hit a record when under hammer, as art collectors offered $1.7 million at Christie’s. A Bogatyr (1920) by the late 19th century artist has never been displayed or auctioned.

Christie’s November Russian Art sale features quite a number of rare masterpieces new to the market, among them works by Vasily Vereshchagin, Aleksandr Volkov, Natalia Goncharova and Filipp Maliavin.
