Turkish new currency symbol resembles Armenian dram

Turkey’s Central Bank has introduced today a new symbol for its currency, Turkish Internerhaber reported. The symbol, revealed in a ceremony by Turkey’s Central Bank chief Erdem Basci, is a double-crossed “t’’ shaped like an anchor. The symbol was chosen in a competition among 8,000 designs.

The symbol has become a key topic in Facebook discussions. Many Turks are discontent with the new symbol as they think it has resemblance with Armenian national currency - dram.
