Mario Gomez: I will never be as good as Messi

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has downplayed comparisons with Barcelona star Lionel Messi, after his four-goal haul against Basel on Tuesday night sent the Bavarians through to the Champions League quarter-finals, Goal.com reported.

"I'll never be as good as Messi and I'd never try to be," the in-form striker was quoted as saying by the official Uefa website. "He's a completely different player to me. I don't see him as a peer. I see him as the ultimate footballer."
