Abidal undergoes liver transplant

Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has undergone a nine-hour liver transplant, coach Pep Guardiola was quoted as saying Wednesday, RIA Novosti reported.

The French international, 32, underwent surgery in a Barcelona clinic on Monday, Guardiola said in comments carried by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

“Now we must have faith and wait for 48 hours to see how the rehabilitation process evolves,” he was quoted as saying.
