Turkish man jailed for insulting president on Facebook

A Turkish man has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison for insulting Turkish president Abdullah Gul on social networking site Facebook, Yeni Safak daily reports.

Ali Cemal Agirman, 52, demanded his release in the court, announcing that he was unaware that the post constituted a crime.

It is reported that one year ago Agirman was brought to trial for insulting Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on social networking sites.
