Alekhine Memorial R5: Aronian draws with Gelfand

The fifth round of the Alekhine Memorial, the last one in Paris, was a good day for France but a bad day for Russia. Laurent Fressinet and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave managed to beat Vladimir Kramnik and Peter Svidler respectively, and both with the black pieces. World Champion Vishy Anand scored his first victory against Ding Liren and the games Gelfand-Aronian and Adams-Vitiugov ended in draws. The tournament resumes on Sunday in Saint Petersburg, ChessVibes reports.
