Yerevan holds municipal elections

Yerevan holds municipal elections today. Residents of Yerevan will go to the polls today to elect the 65-member Council of Elders, one of whom will become the mayor of Yerevan.

A total of 464 polling stations have been set up in Yerevan. The voting starts at 08:00 and ends at 20:00.

The voters’ list includes 816,475 people.

Six political parties and one bloc run in the municipal elections: Mission party, Prosperous Armenia Party, Armenian National Congress, ARFD, Republican Party of Armenia, Orinats Yerkir Party and Barev Yerevan bloc, formed on the basis of Heritage party.

The Council of Elders elections will be held with proportional lists.

Incumbent mayor Taron Margaryan is number one candidate in RPA list. Deputy chairman of Heritage party Armen Martirosyan tops the list of Barev Yerevan bloc, former Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian - the list of Prosperous Armenia Party, former mayor Vahagn Khachatryan – ANC, Armen Rustamyan –ARF Dashnaktsutyun, Emergency Situations Minister Armen Yeritsyan – Orinats Yerkir Party and Mesrop Arakelyan – Mission party.
