Armenian PM meets with world famous violinist Pinchas Zukerman

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan met with world famous violinist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman, who is in Yerevan to participate in the closing concert of the 14th Yerevan Perspectives International Music Festival, the Armenian government’s press service said. 

The celebrity artist will act as both conductor and soloist to perform Camerata Salzburg with the orchestra. The distinguished guest thanked the PM and the Armenian Ministry of Culture for support and cooperation.

Festival’s artistic director, composer, Honored Artist Stepan Rostomyan is said to have discussed with the famous violinist the possibility of hosting a joint gala concert dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

For some 14 years now, Pinchas Zukerman has held the post of musical director of Ottawa’s National Arts Center. For 4 years, he has been principal conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. He first came to Armenia in 2009 together with The Zukerman Chamber Music Performers company. In 2010, he accepted the invitation to perform as a soloist with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia. The world famous artist’s first music teacher was Ivan Galamyan.
