Tevan Poghosyan: Civil society of Armenia should learn to dictate political agenda
Armenia’s civil society should learn to dictate a political agenda, Armenian MP of the opposition faction ‘Heritage’ Tevan Poghosyan said at a press conference today.
He reminded reporters of Armenian civil society’s achievements since 2008 such as the ban on installation of trade stalls in Mashtots Square of Yerevan, the prevention of attempts to raise public transport fares, etc.
“I am glad that the new generation is able to voice problems. The June events on Bagramyan Avenue (editor: the rallies protesting a rise in electricity tariffs that led the authorities to take a decision on compensation for the difference in tariffs until an audit of Electric Networks of Armenia Company) represent a victory because they managed to awaken state bodies and make them work and look for a solution,” the parliamentary deputy said.
He expressed hope that youths will continue to act the same way. In his words, one of the crucial tasks of civil society is to prevent state bodies from falling into a doze.
