Healthcare Minister assesses birth rate in Armenia

“Armenia is ahead of even developed countries in terms of birth rate, we have natural growth. Yet some new trends in Armenia show that appropriate approach isn’t established, by 2035 the birth rate will decrease two times,” said Minister of Healthcare of Armenia Armen Muradyan during parliamentary hearings organized by the Standing Committee on Health Care, Motherhood and Childhood Affairs at NA

According to the Minister, the birth rate in Armenia has decreased during the last few years. Compared with the 80k births in 1990, now the number is 42-43k.

Some estimates show that in 2035 the main maternal potential will decrease, because the 40k girls born in the ’90s will be replaced with a total number of 15k.
