Leonard Cohen dies at 82

Legendary singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen — best known for classics such as “Sisters of Mercy” and “Hallelujah” — passed away on Thursday night at the age of 82. New York Post reports.

His label, Sony Music Canada, confirmed his death on Facebook.

“We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries,” their statement read. “A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”

A cause of death has not been given.

The news comes just weeks after Cohen told the New Yorker he was “ready to die.”

“I hope it’s not too uncomfortable,” he said. “That’s about it for me.”

Cohen, a native Canadian, released his 14th studio album — “You Want It Darker” — last month.

The artist's countless fans took to social media on Thursday night to pay their respects to the man whose numerous hits spanned five decades.
