World-famous Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan to perform in Taiwan

World-famous Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan, who is gold medallist at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, begins his Asian concert tour. The first concert of the Armenian musician is scheduled on May 30 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan.

As the cellist noted in a post on Facebook, he will perform a recital with Taiwanese pianist Artemis Yen. The concert program features pieces by Bach, Khudoyan, Ligeti, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.

Hakhnazaryan is recognised worldwide as one of the finest cellists of his generation. Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, he has forged strong relationships across the globe with orchestras such as the Mariinsky Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Filarmonica de la Scala and the London Philharmonic. Hakhnazaryan was selected to the prestigious 2014 BBC New Generation Artists Scheme, and his performances are broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3.
