Levon Aronian outplays Russian opponent at first round of Sinquefield Cup

Armenian GM Levon Aronian claimed his first victory at Round 1 of Sinquefield Cup 2017, which kicked off on Wednesday at Saint Louis, U.S.

The Armenian player defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia) at 29 move. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) and Sergey Karjakin (Russia) also won their games against Wesley So (USA) and Peter Svidler (Russia) respectively.

Caruana – Carlsen and Anand – Nakamura games ended in draw.

Aronian will face Fabiano Caruana (USA) at Round 2 of the tournament scheduled for Thursday.
