Armenia saw inflation in food products in second quarter of 2017

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 101.3% in the second quarter of the current year, compared to the 98.3% for the indicated period of 2016 in Armenia, according to the data provided by the National Statistical Service (NSS).

The source informs that the registered inflation stems from a 105.5% rise in prices of food products (including alcoholic beverages and tobacco).

Meantime, the prices of non-food products and services went down by 97.3% and 98.2% respectively in the indicated period.

The NSS indicators show that in the first quarter of 2017, the growth rate of the GDP stood at 106.5%.

In the first quarter of 2017, the total GDP made up 971 904.0 mln AMD, of which agriculture comprised for 54 205 mln AMD or 5.6% of GDP. In parallel to the 6.5% GDP growth (106.5%) in first quarter of 2017, a 3.8% decline (96.2%) was recorded in agriculture.

In the first quarter of the current year, the average number of economically active population of Armenia comprised 1202.9 thousand people, of whom 81.0% or 974.5 thousand were engaged in the economy, including the 26.8% in the agriculture sphere.
