Prices for dairy, meat products rise sharply in Armenia in August

Armenia saw a sharp 8.6% increase in prices for meat products in August 2018 against the same month of 2017 and a 2.4% rise from July of the running year, according to the latest figures released by the Statistical Committee.

The results of the monitoring conducted by the committee in 9 cities reveal a 0.1-3.6% price hike in meats in August from July, with the highest price increase recorded in capital Yerevan. Two cities under study saw a 0.3% meat products price fall last month.

According to the statistics, prices for dairy products, cheese and eggs also rose by 0.3% in August this year compared to August 2017, while the products recorded a 1% inflation against July, which was mainly prompted by a 5.9% egg price hike.

August also saw an increase in prices for coffee, tea, cocoa, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, bakery, grains, fishery and seafood products compared to the July data.

Meantime, prices of oils and fats remained unchanged in August from the previous month.

A different picture can be seen in the sugar market, which registered a substantial drop of 18.8% in August 2018 compared to the same month of 2017 and a 2.6% price cut from July this year.
