Armenian parliament adopts opposition-drafted bills

The Armenian National Assembly adopted two bills drafted by opposition factions at Wednesday’s sitting.

The bill proposing amendments to the education law that had been drafted by lawmaker Tigran Urikhanyan from the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party faction passed the first reading in a vote of 111 for and 2 against.

The new measure would enable students to pay their tuition fees on a monthly basis.

Lawmakers also unanimously adopted in the second reading and in full a bill proposing to extend the timeframes set under the law on citizens who have escaped compulsory military service.
