Arsenal 'keen to offload' Mkhitaryan as Unai Emery tries to reduce squad's wage bill

Unai Emery is reportedly looking to offload Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the end of the season as the Arsenal boss looks to bring down the bloated wage bill at the Emirates Stadium, Daily Mail reports, citing The Mirror.

The Armenian midfielder is on a wage close to £200,000-a-week at Arsenal, a similar figure to striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while midfielder Mesut Ozil pockets £350,000-a-week.

Boss Unai Emery was told in January that he only had money for loan signings in January and is expected to have a budged of just £45m for the summer window.

And, as he looks to trim the wage bill in order to use resources elsewhere, he has deemed Mkhitaryan expendable according to The Mirror.

Despite working with a stringent transfer budget, Emery is likely to be plotting a summer of upheaval at Arsenal.

Key to Arsenal's overhaul is whether they return to the lucrative Champions League, where the riches on offer could in turn allow Emery to work with more money.

They are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 60 points from 30 games, two clear of fifth-place Manchester United.

Arsenal are next in action on Monday, at home to Newcastle.
