Armenia marks Astronomy Day

18 September, the birthday of famous Armenian scientist Victor Ambartsumian, is marked as Astronomy Day in Armenia. Astronomy Day was designated by the Armenian government on 8 January 2009.

Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory invites all to the village of Byurakan to celebrate Astronomy Day and the 111th anniversary of the great scientist.

At the observatory you can:

- visit Viktor Ambartsumian house-museum. From 6pm to 9pm entrance is free to everyone.
- at 6:30pm attend the lecture titled "V. Ambartsumian and the Development of Astronomy in Armenia". The lecture will be delivered by Areg Mickaelian, Director of Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory.
- observe the night sky through the telescope (schoolchildren - 500 drams, other Armenian citizens - 1,500 drams and foreign citizens - 3,000 drams). 

Night observation must be booked in advance by calling 091 195903.
- visit the planetarium (schoolchildren - 400 drams, other Armenian citizens -1,200 drams and foreign citizens - 1,800 drams).

"Don’t forget warm clothes, it’s cool in Byurakan," the observatory said on Facebook.
