The defense team of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan has appealed the ruling of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction of Shengavit District to keep him in custody.
On 4 September the Constitutional Court partly accepted an appeal filed by the ex-president’s lawyers to void Article 35 of the Criminal Procedure Court, declaring its contrary to Part 1.4 of Article 27, Part 1 of Article 61, Part 1 of Article 63 and Article 75 of the organic law.
Based on the decision, the lawyers subsequently petitioned presiding judge Anna Danibekyan to free the former president and end his prosecution, but the court ruled to reject their motion on 17 September.
