ECHR elects new president

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) elected on Monday Robert Spano (Iceland) as its new President.

He will take office on 18 May 2020, the ECHR website reported.

Robert Spano succeeds Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos (Greece).

He has been a judge of the European Court of Human Rights since 1 November 2013. Spano was elected ECHR Vice-President on 5 May 2019.
