Artsakh president announces launch of volunteer militia to ‘break enemy’s backbone’

Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan has signed into law a bill on the launch of volunteer militia to “break the backbone” of Azerbaijan, he said on Tuesday.

“I have just signed into law a bill on amendments to the law on Defense of the Republic of Artsakh, which was unanimously passed by the parliament today. It was submitted to the National Assembly on my initiative and will regulate the participation of the volunteer militia forces in the active defense of our country,” the president wrote on Facebook.

The decision to create volunteer militia stems from the imminent threat facing the country and aims to further strengthen the defense of the Artsakh borders together with the Defense Army, he said.

“Both Turkey and thousands of mercenary terrorists are taking part in the war unleashed against us by the adversary.

At this crucial moment of the holy patriotic war, I once again urge our people to unite and make every effort to achieve a final victory. The participation of each individual is crucial to break the Azerbaijani backbone and push them back beyond our borders.

We shall win and shall ensure a future of living in peace and security in our homeland for the coming generations.
