National Assembly appeals to international community to pressure Azerbaijan over Armenian PoWs and other captives

The National Assembly of Armenia adopted a statement addressed to the international community on the matter of Armenian PoWs and civilians help in Azerbaijani captivity. The address, initiated by Bright Armenia opposition party, was adopted during the December 8 session with 100 in favor votes.

The statement, addressed to the UN Human Rights Council, the UN Committee Against Torture, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the CoE Commissioner for Human Rights and other relative human rights bodies, calls on the international community to urge Azerbaijan to immediately return the Armenian PoWs captured during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, stop the practice of torture and inhuman treatment of the war prisoners and other civilians as well as stop the anti-Armenian policy which is the root cause of the above-mentioned gross human rights violations.

The Armenian lawmakers also called for taking practical steps to make Azerbaijan fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
