Court of Appeals rules to arrest opposition lawmaker, professor Armen Charchyan

The Yerevan Criminal Court of Appeals upheld an earlier ruling on Monday to arrest former Director at Izmirlyan Medical Center and lawmaker from opposition "Armenia" bloc Armen Charchyan,  granting the prosecutors’ appeals against a lower court’s decision to release him from custody. Judge Ruben Mkhitaryan, presiding over the high-profile trial, announced the decision on Monday, Erik Aleksanyan, Charchyan's lawyer told Pastinfo news agency.

To remind, on July 21 the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction  granted the petition filed by Professor Armen Charchyan's lawyers about the legality of detention as a preventive measure chosen against him and ruled to release him. Charchyan was freed on bail.

Armen Charchyan, former Director at Izmirlyan Medical Center and lawmaker from the opposition "Armenia" bloc, was arrested  by Police in June, before the snap parliamentary elections for allegedly forcing his employees to take part in the elections and vote for the "Armenia" bloc.
