Russian peacekeepers ensure security while mining rubble for construction of new road in Artsakh village

The servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent have begun to ensure security during the construction of a new road, which will run along the line of demarcation of the sides from the village of Khramort to Askeran town in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the Defense Ministry of Russia reported on Wednesday.

“At the moment, measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the extraction of crushed stone in Khramort village. The work is being carried out along the line of demarcation, in connection with which the presence of the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation is necessary,” said Danil Nikitin, a representative of the Humanitarian Response Centre.

Road builders have begun work on the extraction of crushed stone, which will form the basis of a new road near the demarcation line in the Askeran region.

“Together with the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation, we are starting work from Khramort to Askeran to improve the road for patrolling the Russian peacekeeping forces, because the village is on the contact line of fire,” said director of the construction company Narek Hakobyan.

This road will serve both civilians for safer movement between settlements, and peacekeepers to create a new patrol route.  The road construction works are planned to be completed by the end of this year.
