Armenia sends 100 peacekeepers to Kazakhstan

Armenia has sent a peacekeeping unit of 100 people to Kazakhstan for a limited period of time as part of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) peacekeeping mission, the Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The dispatch is based on Article 4 of the CSTO Collective Security Treaty.

"During the mission, the peacekeeping unit of the Armenian Armed Forces will be engaged exclusively in the protection of strategic facilities and infrastructure,” the statement said.

Russia is reportedly sending 3,000 troops to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces, Belarus – 500, Tajikistan – 200 and Kyrgyzstan – 150.
