Armenian MP: Artsakh may also be facing electricity crisis in near future

An electricity crisis may also emerge in Artsakh in the near future, opposition With Honor faction MP Taguhi Tovmasyan, chair of the Armenian National Assembly Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs, said on Monday.

For over a week now, the Artsakh people have been deprived of natural gas supply amid freezing temperatures as the Azerbaijani military refuses to allow the Artsakh maintenance workers to repair the damaged part of the gas pipeline passing via the territory held by them.

“Artsakh may also be facing a problem of electricity supply in the future. In this regard, I would like to draw everyone's attention to the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh,” Tovmasyan told a meeting of the committee.

The opposition MP said that she had sent letters to Armenia’s international partners, calling attention to the situation in Artsakh.

The committee met to discuss the report on the execution of the government’s action plan in 2021.

Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan was the first to deliver a speech, presenting the brief implementation of the policy by the Ministry of Health in 2021.

The mister underlined that the health system was overloaded last year, serving both Covid-19 and other patients. She stated that the ministry continues its policy of increasing access to quality medical services.
