Karen Andreasyan named new SJC head

Former Justice Minister Karen Andreasyan has been named the new chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) overseeing Armenian courts.

He was elected to the post in a secret vote held on Friday, the judicial watchdog said.

The pro-government majority in the National Assembly on Thursday installed Andreasyan and Yeranuhi Tumanyants, a former deputy justice minister, as new members of the SJC at a special session on Thursday.
