Armenia seeks to criminalize renunciation of sovereignty

The Armenian Ministry of Justice proposes changes to the country’s Criminal Code which would criminalize actions or calls aimed at the renunciation of Armenia’s sovereignty.

The draft law has been posted on the unified website for draft legal acts for a public debate.

The new measure proposes 12 to 15 years of imprisonment for “actions aimed at complete or partial restriction of Armenia’s sovereignty through violence or threat of violence as well as public calls for renunciation of sovereignty.”

The Justice Ministry claims the bill is aimed at protecting the country’s sovereignty.
