U.S. urges Azerbaijan to restore free movement through Lachin corridor

The United States calls on Azerbaijan to restore free movement through the Lachin corridor connecting Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) to Armenia, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in a tweet.

“Closure of the Lachin Corridor has severe humanitarian implications and sets back the peace process. We call on the government of Azerbaijan to restore free movement through the corridor. The way forward is through negotiations,” he tweeted on Tuesday.

The blockade began on Monday morning, when a group of Azerbaijanis stopped traffic on the only road connecting Karabakh to the outside world, citing “illegal” mining activity there. Later on Tuesday, Azerbaijan also cut off the gas supply to Artsakh.
