ICRC helps transfer three seriously ill Artsakh patients to Armenia

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has facilitated the transfer of three severely ill patients from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia amid the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan, the Artsakh health authorities reported on Friday.

The three patients suffering from serious illnesses, including cancer and heart failure, had been undergoing treatment in the Republican Medical Center, the Artsakh Ministry of Health said in a statement.

“With the mediation and accompaniment of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the patients were today transferred to various specialized medical centers in Armenia,” the statement said.

For more than two weeks, large groups of Azerbaijanis posing as eco-activists have blocked the Lachin corridor, Artsakh’s sole land link to Armenia, to protest what they claim is illegal mining.
