Opposition MP rebuffs claims of progress in Armenia-Azerbaijan talks

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has firmly rejected the claims that Armenia and Azerbaijan have made “progress” on some issues in the latest U.S.-hosted talks.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers on Thursday concluded a new round of negotiations held in and outside Washington. The Armenian Foreign Ministry said they agreed on more articles of an Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty but still disagree on some key issues.

In a social media post on Saturday, the MP, who represents the opposition Pativ Unem faction, stressed the supplies of foodstuffs, fuel and other basic goods to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) remained blocked by Baku despite the peace talks.

“The movement [in and out of Artsakh] is almost completely paralyzed. The Armenian interests are not represented in any way in the negotiations with Azerbaijan. Baku’s demands are on the table, so nothing positive should be expected," Abrahamyan wrote.
