Court refuses to release former Vanadzor mayor

Judge Sargis Dadoyan of Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday denied a defense motion to release former Vanadzor Mayor Mamikon Aslanyan.

His attorney Artak Voskanyan has petitioned the court to replace the ex-mayor’s pre-trial detention with other measures of restraint.

Aslanyan was arrested after defeating Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party in the Vanadzor elections in December 2021.

He has been charged him with abuse of power and forgery.
