Vardenis residents protest plans to close passport office

Residents of the town of Vardenis in Armenia's Gegharkunik Province and its neighboring villages blocked the main road leading to the town on Monday.

They protest against the authorities' plans to close the local passport office, claiming it would add further burden on border residents, Sputnik Armenia reports.

As a result of negotiations, the protesters agreed to open the road until the arrival of Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan to discuss the issue.
