Armenia-CSTO relations remain unchanged, MP says

No progress has been made in relations between Armenia and the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), pro-government MP Sargis Khandanyan says.

"There is no shift in relations between Armenia and the CSTO. Armenia has not participated in the CSTO activities for more than a year, taking into account our repeatedly expressed position on the CSTO's actions or inaction," Khandanyan said.

His comments came after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told France 24 in an interview last week that Armenia had frozen its participation in the CSTO because the security bloc had failed the country.

Separately, Khandanyan, the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, warned of a growing risk of tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

"I would not like to make such a prediction, but, in general, the lack of progress in negotiations in the second half of 2023 constantly raises fears that an increase in border tensions is possible," the MP stated.
