Religious leader: Tavush movement not about idols

The protest movement in Armenia’s Tavush Province is not linked to any individuals, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Primate of the Tavush Diocese who is leading a march to Yerevan, announced in the town of Sevan on Monday.

The march from the border village of Kirants to Yerevan kicked off on 4 May following non-stop protests against the unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government on 19 April.

"This is not a movement of idols. This movement seeks to put an end to all suffering, humiliations and sins, as well as to bring self-purification and self-awareness," Fr. Bagrat remarked.

The movement members and supporters are set to march to Hrazdan today. They aim to reach Yerevan on May 9.
