Armenian villagers oppose construction of new cement plant

Residents of Ginevet, a village in the Vedi community of Armenia’s Ararat Province, strongly oppose the government’s plans to construct a new cement factory there.

The local residents and environmental activists fear that the construction of a second plant in Ararat Province could cause health hazards.

Public hearings on the draft project were held in the village on Wednesday.

People in Ginevet demanded a meeting with Vedi community head Garik Sargsyan to share their concerns.
