Yeghishe Kirakosyan: Armenia has serious concerns over rights of detainees in Baku

Armenia last received updates on the health and detention conditions of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan in early February, according to Yeghishe Kirakosyan, Armenia’s Representative on International Legal Matters.

Speaking at parliamentary debates on the ratification of The Hague Conventions for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes (1899 and 1907) on Tuesday, Kirakosyan expressed serious concerns over the rights of Armenian detainees.

He stated that Armenian authorities are closely monitoring reports and images of Armenian prisoners circulating in the media.

"We are closely monitoring them and sharing them with the European Court of Human Rights, urging the court to compel Azerbaijan to provide further details not only regarding Ruben Vardanyan and former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh but also all detainees," Kirakosyan emphasized.

"We have serious concerns about the rights of other detainees as well. In this regard, we are making significant efforts and will continue to do so," he added.
