Armenian wrestler beats Azeri rival at U23 European Championships

Armenian freestyle wrestler Sergey Sargsyan defeated his Azerbaijani opponent Abduljalil Shabanov at the U23 European Championships 2025 being held in Albania, Tirana from March 8 to 14.

Sargsyan advanced to the Round of 16 in the 97 kg category after a dominant 11-3 victory over Shabanov on Saturday.

In the 70 kg weight class, Vladimir Azaryan secured an 8-3 win against Hungary’s Marton Varga.

Armenia has sent nine freestyle and ten Greco-Roman wrestlers to the U23 European Championships.
