Iranian expert: Turkey trying to shape new world order

Ehsan Movahedian, an Iranian international relations specialist, addressed regional tensions in an interview on Monday, warning of Turkey’s broader ambitions under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Turkey, under Erdogan’s leadership, is trying to change the situation and shape a new world order. With the support of some countries, especially Azerbaijan, Erdogan is trying to create a Turkic world,” he told reporters.

“In order to accomplish this idea, they are trying to encounter Armenia and then Iran. Their first objective is to conquer Syunik,” the expert stated, adding Armenia and Iran should jointly counter common threats.

The Iranian expert also cautioned against the challenges posed by the possible opening of Armenia’s border with Turkey.

In response to Panorama's question about the killings of civilians  in Syria, described as genocide by many experts, Movahedian drew parallels with the Armenian Genocide.

“This is a genocide. It’s so simple, it’s what happened in Armenia in 1915. This is the morale of Turks; they want to evade everyone but Turks. They do it through economy, cultural manipulation, and after that they go from soft treats to hard treats," he stated.
