Armenian MP: Turkey poses security threat to entire region

Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has accused Turkey of involvement in the killings of civilians in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Sunday that 830 Alawite civilians had been killed since Thursday by Syrian security forces.

"The actions of the Syrian regime against various ethnic groups bear the hallmark of Turkish influence, which threatens not only the Syrian people but also the entire region," he wrote on Facebook on Monday.

According to the lawmaker, Turkey’s involvement became evident as early as last year, during the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government and the establishment of a new regime in Syria.

"Today, Turkey's tactics are once again evident in acts of ethnic cleansing and genocide," said the Pativ Unem faction MP.

"When we spoke about the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and stressed its importance as a crucial security issue, when we discussed the nuances and complexities of relations with Turkey, Armenian authorities attempted to justify everything through financial interests, daily conveniences and simplistic reasoning.

"Turkey, driven by insatiable and unjustified expansionist ambitions, poses a grave security threat to the entire region," Abrahamyan stated.
